Six POBJFKHS Students Earn National Merit Recognition

A group of students and adults stand in front of a large window decorated with numerous green leaf cutouts, behind which is a sign that reads "HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR DECISION TREE."

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School is proud to announce that four students were named National Merit Scholarship Finalists: Soha Jhaveri, Alex Lee, Claire Lim and Dylan Stal. In addition, Ethan Torres was named a National Merit Scholarship winner, while Matthew Fitzgerald received the National Merit Marsh Scholarship.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is a prestigious academic competition that begins with the PSAT/NMSQT taken during a student’s junior year. In addition to earning outstanding PSAT scores, students must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, submit qualifying SAT or ACT scores, complete a detailed application and essay and receive a recommendation from their high school. Finalists represent approximately the top 1% of high school seniors nationwide.
The District congratulates these students on this remarkable accomplishment and recognition of their academic excellence.
